Location & Accessibility
Can Portell, in Sant Andreu del Terrì, at half an hour’s drive from the French-Spanish border, lies fairly hidden in the Catalonian countryside. It is situated right between Perpignan and Barcelona, at 30 km from the idyllic Costa Brava beaches. The Pyrenees stretch the entire width of the horizon. Sant Andreu del Terrì is a hamlet, where the population doubled when we arrived.
Our masia is 15 minutes from both the Lake of Banyoles, site of the 1992 Olympic rowing competition, and the charming town of Girona. An ideal base therefore for all kinds of activities and a delightful spot to relax again in the pastoral peace, to take a lovely walk and dream away in our spacious garden.
The Catalonian area
This part of Spain is one of those rare places on earth where you will be hiking in the mountains in the morning (and skiing during winter, 1.5 hours from our B&B and you are at 2,400m), unfolding your beach towel in the afternoon, and drinking a glass of wine on one of lively Girona’s terraces in the evening. And in between, you will find everything you may expect from a holiday destination: the endless beaches and hidden coves of the Costa Brava, the impressive Salvador Dalí triangle, forgotten villages, castles, close to the cultural towns of Girona, Figueres and Barcelona, the most beautiful hiking trails that never end, flee markets every weekend, the best golf courses in Catalonia (PGA Catalunya, Golf Girona, Emporda Golf, Golf Platja de Pals, Golf Costa Brava, and more). And during the summer months, let yourself be entertained at night under the stars by one of the many open-air music festivals (Festival de Cap Roig, Festival Castell de Peralada, Festival de la Porta Ferrada). Or hop into France and drink a pernod in Collioure. Tired of it all? Just stay ‘home’ and hang around our pool for the day.
